Who are we?
Nic&Mic was founded by brothers Nicholas and Michael Ninaber van Eijben. Its origins date back to 2014, when Michael, during an internship in Kenya, encountered Ocean Sole, an organization that rescues discarded flip-flops from the ocean and transforms them into colorful works of art. Nicholas, with a strong drive for social entrepreneurship, immediately saw the potential to expand this impact.
Driven by a shared mission and supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign, Nic&Mic was founded to take Ocean Sole to the next level – first in the Netherlands, and later beyond.
Today, Nic&Mic has grown into an organization with a clear sustainable and social mission. The proven approach that put Ocean Sole on the international map is now being applied by several impact-driven partners. Nic&Mic collaborates with organizations such as Ashanti Design, ACT, and Chako Zanzibar.
The common thread in everything we do? Cleaning up waste, creating something beautiful from it, and ensuring fair, sustainable employment for the makers.
In other words: The Art of Upcycling.
