We have never bought so many (cheap) clothes as now and have never thrown them away so quickly. Billions of jeans, dresses, sweaters and other fashion items flood the market every year. The production of this fast fashion provides an unprecedented amount of clothing. How can we turn the tide?
Some of this is down-cycled into wipers, insulating material or the fillings for mattresses, but the majority goes straight into the incinerator or ends up in landfill.
At Ashanti Design, the upcycling process begins! Ashanti Design buys off-cuts from the clothing factories. These fabrics are sorted by color, cut into usable pieces and rolled up into large balls of cotton. The balls of cotton are taken to weavers in the South African countryside, where they are woven into quality textiles on large looms. These looms are in people's homes, as we used to know in the Netherlands.
Partly due to the modern and contemporary textile processing style of Ashanti Design, this traditional craftsmanship is preserved for future generations.
The colors and patterns of the upcycled fabric are chosen on site by the craftsman / woman behind the loom. Therefore each 'Ashanti' is unique and no two are the same. Bean bags, bags, pillows and colorful accessories are made from the pieces of upcycled fabric.

A plastic-free filling of BioFoampearls. These quality pearls are fully biodegradable and Cradle2Cradle certified. After many years of sitting pleasure, the bean bag can be emptied into the green container. A bean bag to relax in with peace of mind!
Or a filling of shredded flip flops, cutting waste that is released during the production of Ocean Sole images. This provides a firm seat, suitable for a public space or office situation.
